The age of the dinosaurs.

I have been thinking about the effect of older teachers on childrens ICT experience. Does an old fashioned style of teaching made any difference? I have observed some teachers in the past where ICT is seen as a separate subject completely and focussed on very specific aspects of computer skills such as typing. I feel that in order to give children an effective, positive and realistic approach to ICT it must be intergrated into everyday school life and not shoved into a 45 minute slot at the end of a day.
Any views?

  1. I feel that sometimes older teachers with an old fashioned style of teaching can stifle the children's learning and experience in ICT. I have witnessed an older 'ICT coordinator' being one of the only teachers not to use their IWB and stick to pen and paper at all costs! Other older teachers have seemed scared of new technolgies or newer versions of a software but have tried to embrace it. However, by not being confident with ICT I feel that the teachers and children are not fully benefitting from what their technology can do to enhance learning. (Just to make it clear I am not including all older teachers as I am sure some are much more open minded and competent than some of us!!)

  2. Thanks Emma, that's very interesting and a good get-out clause to finish!
